Respite Provider

The Respite Provider role offers support, structure and therapeutic activities to children and families with complex mental health presentations.  Services are intended to help maintain stability and to enhance mental health by giving the child and family a much needed break. This role provides a high level of supervision and establishes healthy and firm boundaries. Respite Providers receive comprehensive training in community mental health and high quality supervision.

Work 1:1 with children in the community.  Respite relationships offer the flexibility to initiate constructive activities that build on children's strengths and introduce children to new activities.  Respite relationships span 6 months to a year.  Respite referrals typically ask for 5 hours/week.  It's common for a Respite Providers to carry two to three matches. 


  • Establish a professional relationship with a child/family
  • Initiate community-based activities that are age-appropriate, constructive and safe
  • Provide a high-level of supervision, establish firm boundaries and set limits on behavior


  • Experience working with children
  • Use of a personal vehicle with a clean driving record


  • This is part time position, maximum 15 hours per week
  • This is a union position
  • This is a non-exempt position
  • This position is paid hourly, at $15.81/hour
