Residential Counselor Adult - Shelter Plus

Provide support services to adults who may have intensive needs who live in Howard Center short term or long-term residences and/or crisis programs. This role ensures a safe, healthy, and functional environment while providing direct service to clients.

Shelter Plus is a co-ed, Permanent Supportive Housing program in Burlington with the capacity to support up to 6 adults with major mental health challenges. This is a single-staffed program. 

Responsibilities:

  • Help residents strengthen independent living skills through milieu-based and community-based activities
  • Facilitate therapeutic and recreational groups
  • Plan/participate in weekly house meal
  • Provide supportive counseling, medication management, and crisis intervention, as needed
  • Help clients strengthen coping and symptom management skills

Requirements:

  • Driver's license and use of a vehicle
  • A combination of experience, skills and/or education in working with adults that experience mental health challenges, substance use disorders and/or intellectual disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder, or another human services field

Structure:

  • Part time, 13 hours/wk
  • Non-exempt
  • AFSCME Union
  • Starting at $21.14 an hour plus shift differentials
