Multicultural Liaison

Join a team that will work to help immigrant and refugee communities adjust to living in Vermont and understand services provided by Howard Center. Provide outreach and support, while addressing needs associated with resettlement.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and meet immigrant/refugee families in their homes and communities
  • Connect immigrant/refugee community with resources, address barriers, and make referrals
  • Engage and improve access to services and stability in the community
  • Advocate and model cultural humility and responsiveness
  • Consult, educate, and coordinate within Howard Center and the community.
  • Help in a crisis and in collaboration with agency crisis services
  • Encourage and empower immigrants/refugees to learn about Howard Center services

Requirements:

  • Have a deep understanding of resettlement communities
  • Have lived experience as a refugee
  • Have knowledge of service provider systems in Chittenden County
  • Speak different languages to serve a multicultural population (preferred languages - Somali/MaayMaay, 
    Nepali, Vietnamese, Karen/Burmese and Phasto/Dari)
  • Experience working across cultures
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: substance abuse, mental health, crisis, victim advocacy or social work or a related field and/or willingness to learn/train HC providers and communities
  • Value diversity, embody cultural sensitivity, and can bridge cultural differences
  • Have strong oral and written communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with families, community members, and community organization
  • Have a valid driver's license and use of a personal vehicle
  • Basic computer skills

Structure:

  • Salary starting at $22.30/hour
  • We offer a competitive salary commensurate to experience
