Exhibition and Community Outreach Facilitator
Manage all aspects of art exhibitions for Howard Center's Arts Collective, including print/digital material to promote events, and strengthens outreach to the Burlington community.
The Howard Center Arts Collective is an alternative arts program that promotes wellness, self-esteem, and dignity of people living with mental illness and substance use challenges. It does this by creating a safe and nurturing space for participants to make art, exchange ideas and learn new techniques; by facilitating a supportive connection between artists, and mounting group art exhibitions at local museums, galleries and other public spaces.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of exhibitions (approximately 6 per year), including collaborating with gallery/business owners, developing 'calls for submissions', working with artists to prepare their work, and coordinating/executing installations
- Oversee and participate in pick-up and returns of artwork to/from artists, create labels, and facilitate the sales of artwork for each exhibition.
- Graphic design and content creation of community outreach and exhibitions materials
- Provide one-on-one direct support to clients in various settings, including transportation on occasion
- Conduct trainings with artists teaching them to mat, frame and prepare their work for professional exhibitions
- Strengthen community outreach to the Burlington community by distributing promotional materials, making presentations to community partners and setting up referral mechanisms
Requirements:
- Four years' combination of experience, skills and/or education in related fields
- A combination of skills, experience and/or training with managing art exhibitions
- Driver's License with acceptable driving record
- Previous experience providing direct support to vulnerable populations
- Training or experience in graphic design
Structure:
- Part time, 12 hrs/wk
- Union position
- Starting at $21.36 an hour
