Clinician - St. Albans - Substance Use Focused

Provide substance use-focused, co-occurring services including Medication Assisted Therapy, assessment, referral, student assistance services, support groups and educational presentations to clients/recipients in a variety of settings, primarily office based. Other settings may include primary care offices, schools, community-based agencies, and courts.

The Howard Center's St. Albans Outpatient Program is the ADAP preferred clinic in Northwestern Vermont, and serves individuals from Franklin and Grad Isle Counties who present with substance use and co-occurring disorders.  Our location has a variety of programs, including traditional OP and IOP programming, a MAT provider and Spoke programming as well as an emergency PIP program serving intoxicated individuals in conjunction with the local hospital.  Come join this diverse and experienced team!


  • Provide direct service to clients: assessment, referral, consultation, education, support, case management
  • Reliably participate in team and clinical meetings
  • Prepare high quality clinical documentation, including authorizations for services, clinical notes, and administrative forms


  • Master's degree in relevant discipline
  • Clinical License or listed on VT Roster of Nonlicensed & Noncertified Psychotherapists (see licensing requirement below)
  • Prior experience counseling clients with co-occurring disorders, both individually and in a group setting
  • Knowledge of substance use treatment
  • Demonstrated ability to defuse challenging situations and work in collaborative environment

Vermont regulation mandates that if you do not hold a valid license then you must be on the Roster of Nonlicensed & Noncertified Psychotherapists before you can be hired for work in this position. If you are not yet on the Roster, please begin the process immediately to avoid delay in hiring. Note this process may take 3-5 days for in-state applications and up to several weeks for out-of-state applications.
