Acute Residential Counselor Adult - Micro Residential Programs

Provide residential-based, specialized support to clients who possess a range of intellectual disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate constructive activities that address goals on a client's Individual Support Agreement (treatment plan)
  • Facilitate community inclusion, daily living, and skill acquisition
  • Utilization of sound judgement and maintenance of calm demeanor during crisis
  • Provide needed behavioral and/or mental health support
  • Provide needed personal and/or medical care

Requirements:

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Three years' experience in a human services or combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skill has been acquired
  • Knowledge and skills in de-escalation techniques strongly desired
  • Relationship-building and boundary-setting skills
  • Valid driver's License, use of a personal vehicle, and an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work either Saturday or Sunday

Acute Residential Counselor Adult

Job Summary: 

The Acute Residential Counselor Adult position provides support services to adults who have intensive needs that live in Howard Center short term or long-term residences and/or crisis programs.  This role ensures a safe, healthy, and functional environment while providing direct service to adult clients. This role also provides guidance and assistance in order to help clients meet their individual goals. 

Essential Functions

  • Develop healthy therapeutic relationships with adult residents
  • Manage, assess and adjust the social and physical environments to ensure appropriate supervision and crisis management
  • Work with residents in assessment, care coordination and as a positive role model to assist in increasing coping strategies, problem-solving skills, and wellness plans
  • Support residents in creating and following safety plans and crisis plans
  • Assist residents with de-escalation and conflict mediation 
  • Assist with program operations, staff training, and resident daily living functions, such as meal/menu preparation, household maintenance/organization and personal care
  • Provide support needed for safety in the community and/ or worksites 
  • Conduct overall health monitoring and medication administration and/or oversight
  • Complete training and documentation as required by program
  • Perform related duties as assigned within your scope of practice

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of combination in experience, skills and/or education working with adults that experience mental health challenges, substance use disorders and/or intellectual disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder, or another human services field
  • Driver's License with acceptable driving record

  • Organizational/Attention to Detail: Manage, organize, and prioritize essential duties. Follow agency policy and procedures.  Identify what needs to be done and take initiative
  • Technology: Use office equipment, hardware and software.  Demonstrate knowledge of agency information management and security policies
  • Collaborative team player

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to move up to 50lbs 
  • Ability to safely mange escalated behavior, including physical intervention determined by specific program
  • Manual dexterity needed for repetitive tasks
